Kim Bo-kum nominated for Prime Minister of South Korea

South Korean President Moon Jae-in today nominated Kim Bu-kyum as the new Prime Minister.

Kim will replace Chung Xie-kyun who has resigned. According to South Korean media, Chung plans to run for president of South Korea.

Kim, 63, is committed to social reform and national unity, and promised to work with the opposition after his nomination. He was a Member of Parliament for four terms, and from 2017 to 2019 he was Minister of Interior.

Before Kim can be formally appointed prime minister, he is due to be elected to parliament. If the majority of MPs do not vote for him, Moon will have to nominate a new candidate.

Also, five new ministers are to be elected, who were replaced during the government reshuffle.
