Onion prices are not decreasing, and yesterday at the green markets in Skopje, 1 kilogram was sold for 100 denars. For the same price, you could buy a kilogram of the first home-grown strawberries. These data are also confirmed by the information portal of the Ministry of Agriculture, where you can read that this vegetable is the most expensive in Skopje and Gostivar. The sellers say that the citizens should be patient because the new onion is arriving and only it can "sink" the price of the old onion.

– You are only talking about onions. The whole world understood us that onions here cost 100 denars, and they forget that you buy a kilo and cook with it for a whole month. Talk about the meat, the electricity, the other prices - says an outraged saleswoman from the Green Market in Skopje.

The Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi announced that the prices of several types of fruits and vegetables will be frozen this weekend. The input parameters for fruits and vegetables from the Ministry of Agriculture are already in the Ministry of Economy and the data from the Customs Administration are still expected.

The president of the Union of Chambers of Commerce (SSK), Trajan Angeloski, sees the reason for such an increase in the price of onions in the high demand at the expense of supply.

- We have received a dozen requests from European companies to buy onions from the country. There is definitely a shortage of this product on the European market. I guess that's the reason for the high price. If there is more demand than supply, prices always rise - said Angelovski recently.

Currently, the Netherlands is the largest producer of onions, but in our stores and markets, you can also buy onions from Egypt.
