Russia is using artillery to try to blockade the Ukrainian city of Lisichansk, the last part of the eastern region of Luhansk region under Kyiv's control, the Ukrainian military said.

The Ukrainian General Staff said the attacks were taking place around the city's oil refinery.
Meanwhile, pro-Russian separatists have taken control of the area around the factory, their representative Rodion Miroshnik reported on Telegram.

The separatists said Kyiv forces were withdrawing to the northwest, and Russian troops were already advancing on the outskirts of Lisichansk.

The Ukrainian General Staff said the fighting was taking place west of the city and that Russian forces were still trying to regain control of the key road between Lisichansk and the town of Bakhmut.
There have also been attacks northeast of Bakhmut and, as stated, "Ukrainian forces have managed to stop the Russian offensive in the south, where Moscow forces have suffered significant losses."

"Fighting also broke out in the eastern Donetsk region, and previously occupied positions in the northeastern city of Kharkov were defended," the military said.
