Disaster in Congo: More than 50 dead in a shipwreck

A boat carrying dozens of passengers has capsized in Lake Kivu in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, killing at least 50 people.

It is not yet known how many people were on board, and how many died, but witnesses said they saw rescue services pulling at least 50 bodies from the water.

According to them, 10 people survived and were transported to a local hospital.

The overloaded ship sank just a few meters from the port in Kituku.

This is yet another deadly boating accident in the Central African country. The main fault for the accidents is the overloading of the vessels. This summer, 80 people died when a boat capsized near the capital Kinshasa.
