The Qatari footballers were defeated by the Netherlands in the final round of the World Cup group stage, setting a negative record.

The national team of Qatar, which already missed the chance to reach the knockout stage, became the first host of the world Cup which lost all three matches.

The worst ever World Cup host team was South Africa, who were eliminated in the group stage in 2010. The South Africans were then in a group with France, Mexico and Uruguay and were eliminated with four points won.
