The Qatar Red Crescent and the UN Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA) have signed a $4,5 million contract from the Qatar State Development Fund to assist more than 4.400 Palestinian workers and patients located in the West Bank.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has long called for the dissolution of UNRWA, accusing it of anti-Israeli behavior.

Several countries have suspended funding to UNRWA following Israeli allegations that some of the agency's staff were involved in the October 7 Hamas terror attack on Israel that sparked the Gaza war.

Most donors have since renewed funding.

195 UNRWA employees died during the conflict in Gaza. UNRWA provides education, health and other assistance to millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Since war broke out between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, UN officials have stressed that UNRWA is the backbone of aid to the civilian population.
