July 26 was the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris, a sports event that will last until August 11. Although the Olympics are about competition and sport for most people, many can't wait to hear the latest gossip and scandals happening away from the public eye. "Index.hr".

Over the years, athletes have been involved in many sex scandals, and there are expected to be several this year as well. Ryan Lochte, a swimmer who has competed in three Olympics, said about 70-75 percent of Olympians have sex during the event.

Many coaches have rules for athletes, such as a curfew or no room visits. Security is everywhere around the rooms, but this ultimately results in the athletes sneaking out of the rooms and finding other places. Amanda Baird said that during the 2000 Olympics, "people walked for miles to try and hide somewhere."

If you haven't been following the Olympics scandals too much, here are some stories.

300.000 condoms in Paris

At this year's Olympic Games, organizers provided participants with more than 300.000 condoms, which they expect will be used up fairly quickly. The director of the Olympic Village, where coaches and athletes stay during the Games, said: "We want to make sure everyone has what they expect and what they need."

Cardboard beds in Tokyo 2021

Considering the events of previous years, the organizers of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 have prepared - cardboard beds for the athletes. Since these beds are not very firm, they were deliberately placed in the rooms so that there would be no sex. The same beds are now installed in Paris.

"We have needs"

At the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games, Internet traffic on Tinder and PornHub skyrocketed, especially from the Olympic Village. In response to this statistic, one athlete said: "You want to talk about pornography?" Okay, okay, we're human, we have needs, just like everyone else."

Largest stock of condoms

There are stories that the largest stockpile of condoms was in Rio in 2016. 450.000 condoms were distributed and 175.000 lubricants were added. That year, Brazilian diver Ingrid Oliviera was dropped from the team after it was made public that she had marathon sex with kayaker Pedro Goncalves and failed to compete as a result. It was later revealed that she threw her roommate out of the room because of this.

Three years later, Ingrid said that she was not kicked out of the team, but that she cried for days because of the scandal.

"I didn't get kicked out of the Olympics and I didn't kick anyone out of the room. "It's true that I brought Pedro into the room, but it wasn't the night before the game," she said.

She said that everyone had similar actions, but that only she ended up in the media.

"Everybody was doing it, Usain Bolt was taking unaccredited girls to his room. People created Tinder profiles to hook up as soon as possible. Only my story went public. At one point, Pedro and I wanted something more, like everyone," she explained.

Athletes on the Tinder social network

During the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, the social network Tinder saw an increase in usage in the Olympic Village. Athletes mostly used the dating app, even though the platform wasn't as popular back then as it is today.

The social network "Grindr" crashed due to too much traffic

At the 2012 London Olympics, the social network Grindr literally crashed within minutes of the athletes' arrival.

"It took 24 hours to get the app back up and running, much to the relief of all concerned," said one Londoner.

The founder of the network had to apologize afterwards and said that the crash frustrated him too.

"I saw people having sex outdoors. On the grass, between the buildings, people threw themselves into work without shame, American soccer player Hope Solo said at the time.

Orgies in the Olympic Village

Snowboarder Scotty Lago went home from Vancouver in 2010 a little earlier than planned after a photo leaked to the media of a fan biting the bronze medal, which he had pinned in a "strategic" place. "ESPN" reported that six athletes participated in orgies in a jacuzzi near the Olympic village.

Urgent shipment

At the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, officials had to send an "emergency" shipment of nearly 10.000 extra condoms after an initial supply of 100.000 was used up. They received many calls from athletes saying they needed condoms.

A sex-fest

The 2008 Beijing Olympics were called a "sex fest," according to Olympic table tennis player Matthew Syed. This led to the catchphrase for those Olympics: "More sex than Woodstock."

In Beijing, by the way, 400.000 condoms were distributed, not only in the Olympic village, but also in hotels throughout the city.

Matthew Syed also said that in Barcelona in 1992 he had more sex in those two weeks than in all the years of his life combined before that.

Sex on a plane

The "sex-fest" continued during the plane ride home from Sydney to Los Angeles after the 2000 Summer Olympics, Breo Greer admitted to having sex with three women each day, two of whom were Olympians and one a tourist. Due to a knee injury, he had to leave Sydney early, but for consolation he managed to have sex in the toilet of the plane on the way to Los Angeles.

Outdoor sex

Julie Foudy, who competed in three Olympics from 1996 to 2004, said she once saw people having sex on the grass. She called the Olympic Village "a frat party with a lot of good genes."

Condoms on roofs

That there is a problem with sex among athletes became known after the 1988 Seoul Games.

Medals vs. group sex

At the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, German bobsledders tried to trade their gold medals for "group fun" with skier Carrie Scheinberg.
