The candidate of Slavi Trifonov's party, "There is such a people", for a new Minister of Foreign Affairs - Dimitar Gardev, seems to have lied in his official biography about his employment in the European Parliament, writes the portal Euractive.

This, according to Euroactiv, could disrupt coalition negotiations to form a new government, but it is difficult to say whether this will prevent Gardev from becoming foreign minister. The final decision should be made by Slavi Trifonov, the leader of the party There is such a people, but he has not yet announced himself.

The new government of Bulgaria, after the elections on November 14, will be formed by the parties The changes continue, the Bulgarian Socialist Party, There is such a people and Democratic Bulgaria.

The names of the candidates for ministers were announced on Monday, and the candidate for prime minister is the leader of the party. The changes continue, Kiril Petkov.

Gardev wrote in his CV that he was an adviser to the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) and the EU Subcommittee on Security and Defense (SEDE).

This is Gardev's highest position, and that information was reported by most Bulgarian media.

Euractiv contacted the relevant services of the European Parliament, which responded that "EP administration has no record of Dimitar Gardev being a staff member in his secretariat".

Gardev actually worked as an assistant to Bulgarian MEP Elena Joncheva in her office in Sofia. He told Euractive that he was indeed Joncheva's assistant and that in that capacity he covered issues within the competence of the AFET and SEDE committees, of which the MEP was a member.

The European Parliament evaluated his work, Gardev said, adding that he received a good grade.

Joncheva confirmed to Euractive that Gardev was her assistant in the Sofia office from 2019 to 2020, but said that his claim that he was an advisor on two boards was not true.
