Jubilee of the symbol of Brazil: The statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro celebrated his 90th birthday
Chosen as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, "Christ the Savior" celebrates its 90th anniversary as Brazil's most famous painting.
In 1926, construction began on the 38-meter-high monument at Moro Do Corcovado, 710 meters above sea level. It took five years to complete and open on October 12, 1931. This October, Christ the Redeemer turned 90 years old.
The anniversary of one of the main postcards of the country began with the religious civil act and the Holy Mass on the Thanksgiving Day for the 90th anniversary of Christ the Redeemer and in honor of the Mother of God Aparecida.
The rector of the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, Father Omar Raposo, emphasizes that the monument is a "propaganda boy" on earth.
"It is impossible to think of Brazil abroad without mentioning this precious monument at the top of Corcovado. Christ the Redeemer gives us the feeling of being carved on the hill of Mount Corcovado. This is so wonderful. "Can you imagine what Rio de Janeiro would be like if Christ were not the Savior?" Said Father Omar.
He remembers that the statue communicates perfectly with the surrounding nature, Tijuca National Park, and brings an experience based on outstretched arms.
"These hands speak of welcome and further identify the heart of the Brazilian people, which is a cordial heart that also has strong hands to work with, full of energy so that we can develop this much-loved nation."
