The Yemeni Houthis shot down an American MK9 drone over Al Bayda province in southern Yemen, the military spokesman of this militant group, Yahya Sari, announced today.

He noted that the drone was targeted by a locally produced surface-to-air missile and added that a video would be released to confirm these claims.

Last Friday, the Houthis said they shot down another US MK9 drone over the southeastern province of Mareb.

The Iran-backed group launched attacks on ships in the Red Sea in November in what it said was a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The US and Britain launched a series of strikes against the Houthis in Yemen in February in response to the group's actions.
