Japan donates equipment worth 38.185 euros to the University Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery

The Ambassador of Japan H.E. Hironori Sawada today signed an agreement for "Grant assistance to small projects for human security" (GGP) in order to improve basic human needs in North Macedonia.

The grant agreement was signed with PHI University Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery at the "Mother Teresa" Clinical Complex - Skopje and aims to acquire an intraoperative neuromonitoring system that will provide more accurate and safer health services for patients undergoing face, jaw and neck surgery, in a total amount of 38.185 euros.

The project signing ceremony was opened by the Ambassador of Japan H.E. Hironori Sawada together with the director of the University Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery, prof. Dr. Danica Popović Monevska.

In his address, Ambassador Sawada noted that: "Patients will no longer be at risk of nerve injury and facial function disorders, nor forced to seek help abroad."

"With the signing of this grant agreement by the friendly Japanese people, one of the most important goals and needs of the University Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery is finally realized, which will significantly contribute to the promotion and improvement of the quality of surgical interventions in the maxillofacial and neck region, and thus also in the provision of a better, more reliable and higher quality health service, which we all strive for", emphasized the director of the clinic, Prof. Dr. Danica Popović Monevska.

Through the GGP, so far, Japan has funded over 60 projects in the health sector totaling more than 3 million euros specifically in medical equipment, clinic renovations and ambulances. In addition, Japan has been equipping public health facilities with medical equipment worth 813.000 euros over the last two years as an emergency aid for covid-19, part of the Economic and Social Development Program and additional non-financial assistance offered in medicines for 100 covid-19 patients .

Through the Small Grants Program (GGP) projects, Japan has financed the renovation and purchase of equipment for more than 73 schools and kindergartens, 64 health facilities, and provided 34 specialized vehicles for waste management and utility services to 51 municipalities.

Japan supports North Macedonia in various sectors continuously, such as infrastructural development, improvement of health services, education, environment, culture, assistance during natural disasters and refugee crises as well as emergency aid amounting to more than 423 million euros as well as other non-financial aid.
