The perpetrator of the car attack in Germany in 2020 has been sentenced to life in prison

The person who hit pedestrians in the German city of Trier a year and a half ago with a car was sentenced to life imprisonment, DPA reported.

Five people died when the 52-year-old perpetrator drove his jeep through a pedestrian zone on December 1, 2020. Among the victims was a two-month-old baby and his father.

The attacker is charged with five counts of premeditated murder and 18 counts of attempted murder.

The regional court in Trier ordered that he be placed in a high-security psychiatric hospital.

According to the psychiatric report, the man suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.
