Israeli Minister Cohen: Tel Aviv expects Trump to take a firm stance on Iran

Israel expects the incoming Trump administration to take a tough stance against Iran and its nuclear ambitions, opening the door for more peace deals with its Arab neighbors, a senior Israeli security cabinet member said.

Energy Minister Eli Cohen, in an interview for Reuters, also said Israel is closer than ever to reaching an agreement to end the fighting.

Israel has been at war on multiple fronts since Hamas, which is also backed by Iran, launched its attack from Gaza on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Hezbollah began attacking the next day. Israel in turn has launched a devastating air and ground campaign in Gaza and has intensified its operation in southern Lebanon in recent months.
Iranian-backed militias frequently fired on Israel from Yemen and Iraq, and Israel and Iran traded direct strikes.
