The campaign staff of Kamala Harris, the US vice president and the most likely candidate for the Democrats in the upcoming elections in November, today accused the former US president and Republican candidate Donald Trump of trying to change the terms of the ABC News debate, scheduled for 10 September, to create an environment for debate that could give him an advantage.

Trump announced yesterday on his platform "Truth Social" that he has agreed with "Fox News" to hold a debate on September 4, with the presence of the moderators of the television and the audience, reported CNBC (CNBC).

At the same time, Trump assessed that the current litigation with ABC News represents a "conflict of interest".

Donald Trump is scared and trying to back out of a debate he's already agreed to and ran straight to Fox News to bail him out, said Michael Tyler, a campaign spokesman for Kamala Harris.

According to Tyler, Trump "should stop playing games and show up for the debate he's already committed to on September 10."

Trump's campaign team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the attack from the Harris campaign.

A few days after current US President Joseph Biden dropped out and endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate, Trump said he was ready to debate the US vice president several times, but later said he would participate in the debate only after the Democrats officially nominated her as the candidate.
