Elections at all levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the election silence began at midnight and will last until the polling stations close on Sunday. Then the general elections are held, the citizens elect new members of the Presidency of BiH, the President of Republika Srpska, deputies for the parliament of BiH, for the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, for the parliament of the Federation of BiH and for the assemblies of ten cantons in the Federation of BiH.

There are 3.368.666 voters on the electoral roll, of which 63.264 will vote by mail.

The Central Electoral Commission of BiH informs that 127 political subjects will be found on the electoral lists, of which 72 political parties, 38 coalitions and 17 independent candidates.
The focus is on the election of new members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which the Bosniak and Croat members are elected in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Serbian in Republika Srpska.

For the Bosniak member, the battle is between Bakir Izetbegović, the candidate of the Party of Democratic Actions and Denis Beqirović of the Social Democratic Party of BiH, who was supported by other opposition parties in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the race for the Croatian member are Borjana Kristo, the candidate of the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH and Željko Komšić from the Democratic Front.

Voters from Republika Srpska will be able to choose between five candidates, and the main rivals are Zeljka Cvijanovic, the candidate of the Union of Independent Social Democrats and Mirko Sarovic of the Serbian Democratic Party.

In the previous mandate, Cvijanovic held the position of president of Republika Srpska, while the leader of the Union of Independent Social Democrats Milorad Dodik was a Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dodik is now running for president of RS, and out of 31 candidates for the position, his biggest opponent is Jelena Trivic, candidate of PDP and SDS, the opposition parties in Republika Srpska.
