Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said today that the Western Balkans should join the European Union before Ukraine and expressed hope that this will happen before 2030.

In Luxembourg, where he is holding a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Tajani, asked to comment on the fact that Ukraine will officially start negotiations with the EU tomorrow, said that the EU is ready to support that country in every sector, including the fight against corruption, but emphasized that the Western Balkans should come first before Ukraine.

"Before Ukraine there are many countries from the Western Balkans. We need to go further and I hope for full membership of the countries of the Western Balkans before 2030, and then we need to work with Ukraine and Moldova. "I think it's important to immediately start a dialogue with Ukraine," Tajani said.
