Historically the largest fires in Oregon, burned 5.700 square kilometers of land
Wildfires in Oregon, in the far western US, have burned more land this year than in any year on record, officials said.
"The fires burned more than 5.700 square kilometers of land," said Carol Connolly, a spokeswoman for the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center.
"That's more than any year since records began in 1992 and surpasses the previous record set in 2020," Connolly added.
She said there have been 71 major fires this year. These are fires that affect more than 40 hectares of trees or 120 hectares of meadows or bushes.
In Oregon, 32 houses burned in those fires.
There were evacuation calls across Oregon, primarily in rural and mountainous areas, with some near the capital city of Portland.
