Send a powerful message: Hidden meanings in the video Princess Kate posted about finishing chemotherapy
Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton revealed that she had finished her chemotherapy treatment. She shared it with a video full of symbolism and carefully selected shots.
The three-minute video, which was shot last month in Norfolk by Will Warr, the royal couple's favorite videographer, focuses heavily on the importance of nature and family.
The video features the Prince and Princess and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. British Telegraph picked out five hidden meanings in the intimate family video shared by the princess.
Nature as a source of comfort and a sign of renewal
Nature formed the frame of the video. But even as the princess released her first video announcing her battle with cancer, she also found refuge in nature.
She has previously spoken about the "power of nature" in maintaining physical and mental health and the videos reflect this. In the video, the princess can be seen leaning against a tree, with her eyes closed as she looks up at the sky. In other scenes, she walks through a field of wheat, her hand stroking the sheaves, beaming with a smile as she holds a yellow butterfly before flying off into the distance.
Nature was also a key theme in June, when she announced that she has good days and bad days and that she is "not out of the woods yet". She accompanied the post with a picture of herself again leaning against a sad willow tree on the Windsor estate, seeking strength and solace in nature.
The joy and vitality shown in the latest video is a far cry from the video message the princess posted in March, when she revealed she was being treated for cancer, sitting alone on a bench, pale and thin.
Prince William as her support
The video shows the prince and princess interacting in a way that has never been seen before. The pair gave a rare glimpse into their private world as they leaned into each other, kissing and holding hands.
In various scenes, the princess rests her head on her husband's shoulder, they lie together, wrapped in each other's arms and laugh, and the prince gently kisses his wife on the cheek.
In a video the princess made in March, when she revealed she was being treated for cancer, she said the prince was a "great source of comfort and reassurance". In the last statement, he mentions him twice, showing how much he appreciates his strength and support.
Their decision to share these personal moments with the world may reflect the "new perspective" they say they have gained on their journey while battling the disease.
The importance of family
The prince and princess have always made it clear that family comes first, and family takes center stage in this video, which is evidenced by shots of their children, as well as the princess's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.
Children swing cricket bats, climb trees and run through sea waves. They are shown outside playing cards and enjoying a picnic. These shots reflect that the princess recognizes "the simple but important things in life that many of us often take for granted."
It is also significant that Kate's parents appear in one scene, playing a classic card game with the family around the dining room table. The princess is extremely close to her parents, who have provided her with invaluable support in recent months. Their inclusion in the video is a means of public recognition, "thanks for being there".
The video is similar to the one the couple released in April 2021 when they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. And in that video, also shot by Var, the family enjoys the sand dunes in Norfolk.
Retro style of recording - memory of the late queen
Most of the footage is shot in an old fashioned grainy style reminiscent of old royal videos. The late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip often captured family moments on camera, and the style Ware chose is reminiscent of those shots of the royal family vacationing at Balmoral or on the royal yacht Britannia.
He drives a car
A snap of the princess driving the Land Rover around her Sandringham estate shows she is well enough to get back behind the wheel and take control of her life.
It is also reminiscent of the late Queen and Prince Philip, who were often seen driving around the royal estates. The late queen enjoyed such independence, especially in her later years.
A close-up of the shifter princess' hand shows that she is not wearing her famous sapphire engagement ring.
