Iran: More than 300 people have died since the start of the unrest over the death of Mahsa Amini
More than 300 people have died in Iran since the beginning of the protest movement after the death of Mahsa Amini, said last night the general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Amiriral Hajizadeh.
The protests in Iran began after the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, who died in a detention center where she was imprisoned for violating the strict dress code for women.
In a video published by Mehr online news agency, the commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Air Force, Amiral Hajizadeh, said everyone in the country was affected by the girl's death.
I don't have the latest data, but I think we may have had more than 300 martyrs and sufferers among the best children of this country after that incident, Hajizadeh said, referring to security forces and protesters.
That death toll includes dozens of members of the security forces who died during clashes with protesters or were killed, according to Iranian officials.
The number of victims is approaching the toll announced by the non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR), based in Norway, which informs that at least 416 people died in the repression of protesters in Iran.
According to the organization, that number includes those killed in the demonstrations over the death of Mahsa Amini, as well as those killed in the violence in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchistan.
