Iran rejects European calls for restraint

Iran's Foreign Ministry said today that the call by France, Germany and Great Britain for restraint in attacking Israel "has no political logic" and "contradicts the principles of international law".

- Without any objections to the crimes of the Zionist regime (Israel), the statement of E3 brazenly demands that Iran not react to the violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, said the spokesman of the ministry, Nasser Khanani - the British media reported.

He called on Paris, Berlin and London to "stand once and for all against the war in Gaza and against Israel."

Tehran and its allies Hamas and the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah accused Israel of killing Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, until the Israeli government claimed responsibility.

United States President Joe Biden and the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Great Britain issued a joint statement yesterday calling on Iran to "back off" from threatening to attack Israel.

In a joint statement, the leaders of all five countries expressed their support for the call by the United States, Qatar and Egypt to resume negotiations on a cease-fire in Gaza with the aim of reaching an agreement as soon as possible.
