Interview with Dimitar Andonovski, singer: My wife Hristina and I have been married for 10 years, together we have learned to overcome challenges

Pop singer Dimitar Andonovski has long been part of the domestic music scene, and in addition to singing, he composes music for theater and film, and a great challenge is that as artistic director he brought the spirit of the cabaret to Bitola, which hosts famous regional and domestic musical names. He has been married to his wife Hristina for 10 years, they have two sons, and he says that his family is his greatest support.

In an interview with "Sloboden Pechat", Dimitar talks about his career, music, his marriage to Hristina, and what kind of parent he is to their two sons.

You recently promoted the video for the song "Storm," which was performed at "Makfest." What is the message you are sending with the song and how satisfied are you with how it is coming across to the audience?

– The song “Storm” is an emotional story about the internal battles that we all carry within ourselves. It conveys a message about fighting emotions, but at the same time it is also a universal message of hope and new beginnings. The response from the audience is excellent, and the video only strengthened that connection with the listeners. I am especially glad that the song manages to reach both the young and the older audience.

Speaking of music, where did your love for music come from, when did you discover you had talent and how did this story begin?

- The love for music was born at a very young age. All my games were connected with music, and enrolling in a music elementary school was the first step towards my musical story. The first appearance at the children's festival "Sido" and all subsequent public performances created the magic that I live today. Music is magic without which I cannot imagine a single moment of my life.

You are also a manager and you perform in the only cabaret in the country, "Gold Felicia". How did this story begin and did you manage to establish the cabaret as a part of the nightlife?

– I am the artistic director and I lead the cabaret project at “Gold Felicija”. This is a project that I started with a lot of love and vision, with the aim of offering something different on the Macedonian scene – a unique combination of music, dance and entertainment. With perseverance, creativity and dedication, we managed to make the cabaret a recognizable part of the nightlife.

We are like a private theater that functions as a team. I am sincerely grateful to all the artists who perform and to the creative team who realize this story, creating magic on stage and an unforgettable experience for the audience.

Do many famous musical names come to the cabaret? Do the big stars have special requirements for performing and how do you deal with that?

– Big stars are professionals, but sometimes they have specific requirements. However, I always try to meet their expectations, because that is part of our success.

What is the challenge in composing film and theater music?

– Composing for film and theater is a huge challenge, because you have to capture the emotion on stage or screen. But that is also the greatest magic – to create music that speaks without words.

Is your wife Hristina your support and does she understand your work? How long have you been married and how do you overcome misunderstandings?

– Hristina is my biggest support. We have been together for almost ten years and we have learned how to overcome challenges. With Hristina we have two beautiful sons, Mihail and Gavril. Love, understanding and mutual respect are our secret.

What are you like as a father, are you strict? And did your sons inherit your interest and talent for music from you?

– I try to be a balanced father – sometimes strict, but always loving. My sons show an interest in music, but I let them decide for themselves what inspires them and I will let them choose the path they will follow.

Do you help around the house, are you one of those men who hang out in the kitchen, and how do you spend your free time?

– Of course I help! I love to cook for my family and it's one of my ways to relax. I spend my free time with my family or creating new music.

Besides the video for the song, what else is coming up from you this year?

– I am preparing new songs for myself, but also for many other singers, and I am also working on several projects in film and theater music. Expect a lot of new Macedonian music and surprises!
