Interview with Andriana Janevska, singer: Created without any sponsors, my first book is a personal contribution to my Macedonia
The pop singer and violin teacher Andrijana Janevska recently launched his first book "Macedonian traditional folk singing in: Mala Prespa, Golo Brdo and Gora".
Although in a race against time, in five years, she managed to collect more than 150 Macedonian folk songs from these parts and, as she says, preserve them from oblivion.
Apart from the music, the new book and everything that fulfills her privately, we talk to Andriana in the interview for "Sloboden Pechat"...
He recently launched his first book "Macedonian traditional folk singing in: Mala Prespa, Golo Brdo and Gora". How did the promotion go and what are your impressions?
- The promotion was held in the museum of "Sterjo Spase" in the village. Globoceni - municipality of Pustec was visited a lot, which makes me especially happy. Many people came from the surrounding villages to whom I somehow owed this work. I loved that area very much and I always visit it with joy.
Where did the idea for this book come from?
- The idea came to me 10 years ago, when we talked with Professor Katerina Todoroska from the Institute of National History about the Macedonians in Albania and the challenges they face. We were in a race against time, to collect as many materials and songs as possible, and I think we succeeded, i.e. is. the book came out at the right time. An additional motivation for me was that there was not much research in these regions, especially in the field of ethnomusicology.
How long did it take you to collect the songs from these parts and how many songs are there?
- It took me about 5 years to collect, and the next 4 years I wrote the paper, under the mentorship of prof. Dr. Rodna Velichkovska from the Institute of Folklore "Marko Cepenkov" in Skopje. I was a dozen times through several villages in the municipality of Pustec, then in Tirana, where I filmed migrant families from Golo Brdo, and in Prizren, where I filmed migrant families from Gora. The book is my personal contribution to my homeland, it is not sponsored by any ministry, nor by private sponsors. I managed to record more than 150 Macedonian folk songs, which I deciphered and melographed.
What is characteristic of songs from these parts?
- The most important thing is that many of the songs are variants of songs that are also sung in our country, so it can be concluded that it is about the same people, which unfortunately was separated in the past. By the way, in Mala Prespa the most characteristic are the wedding songs, in Golo Brdo - the humorous and romantic ones, while in Gora - the love songs.
Speaking of music, what are you up to on that front, any chance we'll hear a new pop song anytime soon?
- My last pop song is: "I can do without you", which I sang last year at Makfest, so in the next period I plan to surprise the audience with a new song and music video.
In the height of summer, how much time do you spend on a motorcycle and what is the longest destination you have ridden?
– I ride mostly in spring and autumn because it is not so hot. I often go to performances with my motorcycle and thus combine work and pleasure. My longest drive was last year, when I went to Meteora, and next week I plan to go to Montenegro.
Vacation time... have you already been somewhere or is it yet to come and what is the ideal vacation for you?
- With the family, we spent one week in Malta and one week in Ohrid. Any vacation with my loved ones is an ideal vacation for me. I love the sea, but also lakes, mountains, rivers... Throughout the year, we walk with our family through our beautiful Macedonia.
You have been following the same line for years. What is the secret that you manage to almost never change your weight?
- Genetics has the biggest share, and then my way of life. I am constantly active and on the go. Otherwise, I don't have a special diet, but I never overeat, and I eat literally everything. The key is moderation.
And how do you maintain your beauty, how much age scares you?
– I try to enjoy every new day, so I don't think much about my years. In terms of physical appearance, I don't do anything special, I don't visit beauty salons and I haven't done any aesthetic corrections. It is very important for a person to be happy and live peacefully. I sleep for 8 hours, I think that is also a key factor.
Finally, what marked your year and what can we expect from you next?
– The promotion to Doctor of Science, the "Singer of the Year" award that I received for the first time at the Golden Ladybug of Popularity and the promotion of my first book "Macedonian Traditional Folk Singing in: Mala Prespa Golo Brdo and Gora", which is already on sale in all "Educational Work" bookstores. The next project will be the recording of the songs from the book. I have already chosen unique ones that I want to sing so that they remain as proof of our rich Macedonian folklore in Albania. That way we will save the songs from oblivion.
