Computer scientists react to the new concept of primary education: We are going a few steps back

The Association of Informatics of Macedonia (ZIM) informs that with a letter sent to the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) it reacts to the announced conception in primary education. The letter states that the new concept, instead of going in the direction of strengthening the conditions for the realization of the introduced information contents, goes a few steps back and erases everything that has been achieved so far..

- Even the countries around us in the past few years, partly according to our example, have started introducing information topics in their curricula, and only we will go backwards. The title of the course "Technology, Technology and Informatics" combines many different, in parts and unrelated areas. Maybe when technology is used, the commission thinks of information and communication technology, but in a general sense it is not. Moreover, such a subject is placed in the so-called "Group B" compulsory subjects, in which, in addition to that subject, are the subjects of arts and physical education, it is said in the letter from ZIM.

According to ZIM, the need of students should be recognized and a good foundation should be given from an early age for them to be able to choose informatics as a future profession..

- It enables the country to have a large and profitable information sector, which not only takes care of a significant part of the labor force, but also provides them with high incomes, provides the country with growth and increased exports, as well as high income in the pension system, say from ZIM.

They react to the abolition of the previously introduced topics from informatics at an early age and appeal not to go, as they say, with hasty solutions.

- We appeal to make efforts to study informatics continuously from third to ninth grade, with special promotion of the name of the subject, in order to focus and interest as many students as possible to choose informatics as their future profession.
We urge not to classify computer science in the so-called "group B" compulsory subjects when it is clear that it is a subset of STEM, it is said in the reaction from ZIM.
