INFOGRAPHIC: NATO Strengthens Eastern Flank Defenses
Russian aggression against Ukraine has prompted NATO to steadily increase the number of its troops across Europe.
The presence of foreign soldiers in European countries increased again in June.
The United States has so far sent the most soldiers from NATO member states, approximately 100 thousand.
On March 24, at an emergency summit on Russia's war against Ukraine, NATO leaders agreed to deploy four battalions to Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, in addition to the four already present in the Baltic states and Poland.
More generally, they decided to take measures to ensure the security and defense of all Allies in all domains, strengthening the Alliance's longer-term deterrence and defense posture.
The largest presence of NATO soldiers is in Poland. According to the alliance, there are 11.600 foreign troops in Poland, along with 122.500 domestic troops.
