President of the World Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino said today that his speech before the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which provoked great reactions, was misinterpreted.

In his speech, Infantino spoke about the plans to play the World Cup for two instead of four years, but also about the tragedies of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea who need hope.

- We must find ways to involve the whole world, to give hope to Africans so that they do not have to cross the Mediterranean in search of a better life, which often ends in death. We must give everyone a chance, but we must do it with dignity. Not by giving mercy, but by enabling the rest of the world to participate - said Infantino in his speech which provoked great reactions in the public.

- My colleagues from Human Rights Watch interview migrants from all over the world on a daily basis. "We are writing reports of why they are leaving their homes and never mentioning the World Cup calendar," Andrew Stroline of Human Rights Watch told Infantino.

The first man of FIFA was also attacked by the general director of the European football fans, Ronan Even, who estimated that Infantino uses the death of the migrants in the Mediterranean Sea to sell his megalomaniac project.
"I was speechless after what Infantino said," Ewen said.

Aware that his speech provoked a storm of reactions in European football, Infantino again spoke out and stated that his words had been misinterpreted.
- Because some parts of my speech are misinterpreted and taken out of context, I would like to clarify that the message of the speech was that everyone in a position to make decisions has a responsibility to improve the position of people in the world. "My comment on migrants was not directly related to the possibility of the World Cup being played every two years," Infantino said.
