Their deadline has passed, Belgium will throw over a million vaccines, some sent to Ukraine
The Belgian daily "Le Soar" reveals that Belgium will throw 436.800 doses of the AstraZeneka vaccine because their deadline has passed, reports the MIA correspondent from Brussels.
Half a million doses expire on May 31, while during the summer another 800 thousand doses of Moderna and 90 thousand of Pfizer will be found in medical waste. This is the first time Belgium has had to get rid of the expired Covid-19 vaccine, officials say. A few days ago, expired vaccines were sent to Ukraine.
A total of 1,3 million doses of vaccines will be discarded because they have not been applied, while entire continents remain unvaccinated due to the refusal of rich countries to release the vaccines from commercial patents.
Belgian authorities are trying to relativize the decision by comparing it to neighboring countries, as France dumped more than three million doses of AstraZeneka last month.
The newspaper "Le Soar" reminds of a French journalistic research in the newspaper Le Monde that revealed that Nigeria has become a major recipient of expired vaccines from around the world.
