The illustrated book "Northwest Wind" by Zdenko Basic is published by "Artconnect"
The publishing house "Artkonect" published the famous illustrated book "Northwest Wind" by Zdenko Basic. For this book, the author received the "Cyclops: Book of the Year for Children and Youth" award.
The book "The Northwest Wind" contains illustrations that are inspired by places that the author discovered in his childhood and by folkloric characters that his grandmothers directed him to, remembering and telling him these forgotten stories.
In this book, the reader will encounter stories of elves, fairies of intoxicating beauty, water men, creatures with large limbs, long wind-tangled hair and flaming eyes - a whole range of creatures, which the reader, regardless of age, immediately recognizes because are part of the collective unconscious, of the common tradition that unites humanity through its imagination.
Zdenko Basic was born in 1980 in Zagreb. He graduated from the Department of Animated Film and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. In addition to an animated film, he is also involved in illustration, and so far he has illustrated several children's books, including the latest editions of Andersen's and Grimm's fairy tales. He is the winner of several awards for illustration.
This book was published as part of the project "Facing Uncertainty: Contemporary European Literature" that the publishing house "Artconnect" realizes with the support of the "Creative Europe" program of the EU. The translation is by Vladimir Jankovski.
