Thousands of people have been evacuated from several apartment buildings in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin in recent days after landslides created large cracks in nearby streets, local authorities said.

The large cracks appeared in the streets near an apartment complex in the Jinan district of Tianjin.

According to information published by local authorities on social networks, the cracks reach a depth of 1.300 meters.

In the last six days, since June 3, 25 residents have been evacuated from at least three 3.899-meter buildings in nearby hotels, the Global Time newspaper reports.

The Tianjin city government described the incident as a "sudden geological disaster" after initial information was received from experts and several government departments who photographed the sites.

"It cannot be ruled out that the drilling of geothermal sources resulted in the loss of soil and its collapse in this area," announced the City Administration.

The photos published on social networks show crooked streets, and the mentioned 'incident' has reopened the question of the safety of residential buildings in China.

Otherwise, the Chinese government has introduced strict rules and severe penalties in case of unsatisfactory real estate management.

In addition, Chinese authorities have recently initiated several high-level meetings on geological and hidden disaster preparedness.
