Despite the fall of Mariupol, Zelenski said: We broke the backbone of the Russian army
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his army had inflicted heavy damage on the Russian armed forces despite the fall of the key port city of Mariupol.
Ukraine "broke the backbone" of the Russian army, Zelensky said in a television interview.
"He will not be able to stand on his own two feet in the next few years," he said.
His statement came after the last 2.400 Ukrainian fighters from Mariupol surrendered.
Kyiv will bring it all back, he said, adding that Ukraine would return to the front lines from before February 24, when Russia invaded.
- It will mean that they did not conquer us and that we defended our country, said Zelenski, but stressed that it will be very difficult and that diplomacy will follow.
