The German police closed the highway on the border with Poland for a few hours today because of a Russian who was carrying a fake explosive device, the German newspaper "Bild" reported.

A bomb threat has been declared at the former Ludwigsdorf (near Goerlitz) car border crossing in Saxony after a suspected explosive device was found in the car of a 43-year-old Russian, the newspaper reports.

As "Bild" reported, the police found a firecracker-like object with wires and LEDs, and a battery was connected to the device.

Around noon, police closed the highway in both directions and called in a bomb squad, which eventually determined the bomb was a hoax. Traffic was restored two hours later.
