Croatia buys combat vehicles from the United States for almost $ 200m
Croatia reached an agreement with САД for the purchase of combat vehicles Bradley for the Army, for which he will set aside 145,3 million dollars, the Prime Minister said today in Zagreb Andrej Plenkovi,, reports in Croatian Index.
Plenkovic told reporters that the total value of the procurement was $ 196,4m, of which $ 51,1m would be a US donation. Compared to the initial negotiations, the donation has increased by six million dollars, he added.
"These are armored combat vehicles for the Croatian army and they are part of the US-Croatia co-operation program, which started in 2017," Plenkovic said.
Croatia will receive 62 combat vehicles, 22 spare parts and five training vehicles.
The equipment includes a 25 mm automatic cannon, a 7,62 mm automatic machine gun and anti-tank missiles.
Plenkovic said the procurement met several strategic goals of Croatia, such as strengthening allied relations with the United States, and added that the modernization of vehicles would take place at the Djuro Djakovic company in Slavonski Brod.
He said that with its membership in NATO, Croatia has undertaken the obligation to form a central infantry brigade by 2026, for which it needs appropriate equipment.
He said the first vehicles in Croatia should arrive in 2023.
