The Red Bull boss believes that with the current configuration of the track, which has not changed since 1929, overtaking is almost impossible today and something must be fixed for the famous race to survive

Red Bull Formula 1 team principal Christian Horner believes the configuration of the Monaco circuit needs to change to ensure the long-term future of the famous race.

According to the Briton, overtaking in Monte Carlo is currently almost impossible.

Since the founding of the Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, the circuit has not undergone major changes. Over the years the cars have changed significantly and with their current dimensions (the track is two meters wide) it is very difficult to overtake.

This makes starting position in Monaco more important than any other race.

According to Horner, Monaco will benefit from a change in the configuration of the track, in order to have a secure place in the calendar.

– Trakava is unique. If someone offered this path today, it would not be accepted. But we drive here because it is Monaco, it has history, heritage, background and glamour. Monaco is a very important part of the calendar and a very valuable race for us. It's always exciting when we come here. The capacities here have changed a lot over the years. The only thing that hasn't changed much is the track, and now the cars are too big to overtake. So, in the long term there must be changes - explained Horner.

The last edition of the Monaco Grand Prix was won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who led from start to finish.
