On this occasion "Balkan-Handball" talked to Sead Hasanefendić, one of the most successful handball coaches in this region.
The Macedonian national team is in Group D and will play against Hungary, the Netherlands and Guinea in the Croatian city of Varaždin.
The official schedule and match times for the Macedonian national team are as follows:
15.01.2025 – Hungary – Macedonia – 20:30
17.01.2025 – Netherlands – Macedonia – 18:00
19.01.2025 - Macedonia - Guinea - 20:30
The top three teams from each group will secure a place in the next phase, and according to Hasanefendic, qualifying for the second round will not be a problem for the Macedonians:
– As for Macedonia, Kire Lazarov is doing a really great job, there is no doubt about that. That was evident from the very beginning, and now it has been confirmed throughout his club career where he works with exceptionally young players. Kire follows the modern game, leads the players, and what is extremely important, they follow his ideas. I think that qualifying for the second round will not be a problem for the Macedonians, but what will happen there is a question.
They face the Netherlands and Hungary, who are not bad teams and who have their own strengths. Macedonia has youth, has discipline, has a great game, plays better and better. Now everything depends on many factors, on the goalkeeper, on the players, on whether they are hasty in some final moments. The challenge would be to qualify for the quarterfinals and I would say that should be their goal – says Hasanefendic.
