The profile of the Australian Prime Minister on the WeChat network has been hacked
Australia has accused the social network WeChat of taking over the profile of Prime Minister Scott Morrison and directed his followers to the Chinese Citizens Australia page.
This was confirmed today by the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security of the Australian Parliament, James Patterson.
He said Morrison's profile had been "taken over and rebranded", according to CNN.
"His profile has been hacked," he confirmed.
Patterson added that the Prime Minister's order is now redirecting his followers to the Australian Chinese New Life order.
WeChat is one of the most used messaging applications in China, which in 2020 had about 1,2 billion users per month.
The vast majority of them are located in China, but the network is also popular among the Chinese diaspora.
