Guterres does not believe Russia will invade Ukraine

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is convinced that the crisis between Russia and Ukraine will not escalatethat is, that Russia will not attack.

"I am convinced that this will not happen and I firmly believe I will be right," Guterres told reporters outside the United Nations in New York.

He did not elaborate on his optimism, but said the problems should be resolved through diplomacy and not through military conflicts.

At a recent conference, the US president Joe Biden said that believes that Russia will invade Ukraine, but said that Vladimir Putin does not want a "large-scale war".
