Greek media report on the EU decision to start negotiations with S. Macedonia and Albania

"EU opens door for Northern Macedonia and Albania"; "Northern Macedonia: Satisfaction with the green light from the EU for accession negotiations"; "Green light for accession negotiations with Northern Macedonia and Albania"; "The first 'yes' for accession negotiations for Northern Macedonia and Albania"; "EU: The way is opened for Northern Macedonia and Albania"; "Northern Macedonia and Albania start negotiations with the EU"; "Yes, from the foreign ministers for accession talks with Northern Macedonia", are some of the headlines in the online editions of the Greek media about yesterday's decision to start accession talks for Skopje and Tirana, said the MIA correspondent from Athens.

The media in Greece mainly report the articles from the Greek news agency ANA-MPA, both about the decision and the reactions in our country, ie the press conference of the Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov.

- The EU Council of Foreign Ministers approved the start of accession negotiations with Northern Macedonia and, under certain conditions with Albania. This was announced by the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhei, after the teleconference, "Euronews" reported in Greek.

- The final "seal" is expected to be put by the leaders during the Summit that will be held online on Thursday, due to the coronavirus. Following the blockade by French President Emmanuel Macron, the European Commission changed the accession process, applying a more precise system of evaluating countries in the accession process. Something that finally convinced France, writes the newspaper "Ethnos".

- The Government of Northern Macedonia expressed obvious satisfaction with the decision of the Foreign Ministers of the EU member states to start accession negotiations with the country, writes ANA-MPA.

The alternative head of Greek diplomacy, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, after his participation in the teleconference meeting of the Ministers of European Affairs, as MIA reported yesterday, said that it is an important day for the European Union, and with the decision to start accession talks with Northern Macedonia and Albania, the strategic agenda "Thessaloniki 2003" is confirmed.

- This is a decisive step for the European perspective of the two neighboring countries, which guarantees the Greek position. At the same time, the EU in practice confirms its decisive decision in the Western Balkans region, a fact that represents a strong political message. Congratulations to the Croatian presidency that brought this result under difficult circumstances. This is an important day for the European Union, Varvitsiotis said.
