Following the request submitted by the leader of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, the Greek Parliament will open earlier than planned, in order to hold an extraordinary plenary session on the wiretapping case in Greece, the MIA correspondent from Athens reported.

Tsipras, as announced by the party, spoke by phone with the President of the Greek Parliament, Kostantinos Tassoulas, and informed him that he had submitted a letter requesting the suspension of the summer vacation of the MPs and "determining an extraordinary hearing on the issue of the monitoring of politicians and journalists by the National Security Service." intelligence that is under the authority of the prime minister".

Government spokesman Yanis Ikonomou said that, after being informed by Tassoulas about Tsipras's request, the Government agrees to speed up the opening of the Parliament on August 22 and to set a date for holding a session during that week.

Parliament, which is now closed for summer vacation, was originally scheduled to resume parliamentary procedures on August 31.
