Government ministers, wives of ministers, former ministers, former prime minister, members of the opposition, businessmen and journalists were wiretapped by the office of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Greek newspaper "Dokumento" reported, the correspondent of MIA from Athens reported.

As the newspaper writes, the source of the list is "two persons who played an important role in the monitoring and, apart from the list, they also know the methods and the plan", and "Dokumento" published a list with 33 people who through the "Predator" software and the National Intelligence Service ( EIP) were tapped by the office of the Greek Prime Minister, under whose jurisdiction is the EIP.

On the list, among others, are: the former prime minister from the ranks of New Democracy, Andonis Samaras, the head of Greek diplomacy, Nikos Dendias, the ministers of development, tourism and labor, as well as their wives, the minister of finance, the deputy minister of defense, the alternative government spokeswoman , the former ministers for the protection of citizens, etc., but also persons connected to the big businessmen in Greece, as well as the leader of PASOK - Movement of Change.

Regarding the methods used, the newspaper writes that direct orders were given from the office of the Greek Prime Minister to the National Intelligence Service (EIP) and "this was also the reason why Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally took over the EIP", and by decision of the prosecutor "due to national security" was given the green light for eavesdropping, which lasted for a short time before the monitoring was taken over with the "Predator" software.

- The purpose of the official wiretapping was to locate with whom the monitored person has contacts, that is, to discover his frequent contacts, and after that was discovered, the monitoring was taken over by "Predator", the newspaper writes.

Most members of the Government, who are on the list of "Dokumento", in response to the newspaper said that they do not know or that it is the first time they have heard about such a thing.

With the information published by "Dokumento" today, the wiretapping scandal in Greece is taking on new and greater proportions, considering that until now, only the leader of PASOK - Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, and the MP had reported an attempt to monitor with the "Predator" software. and former SYRIZA minister Christos Spearzis, as well as two journalists whose mobile phones were hacked with the specific program.

Regarding the text and the published list in the newspaper, the spokesperson of the Greek Government, Yanis Ikonomou, reacted, saying that a thorough investigation is needed by the competent authorities and especially by the Greek judiciary, "even though the announcement is not supported by documents" and "there is a lack of data".

He adds that the journalist and publisher of "Dokumento" Kostas Vaxevanis is trying to harm the Government and create a problem in New Democracy.

- Monitoring software exists in Greece, as well as throughout Europe, but it has not been purchased or used by any public authority. The government requested to investigate this case from the first moment and a judicial investigation is underway, said Economu in a written statement and added that the government will introduce a complete ban on the trade and use of malicious software on its territory.

Regarding the case of wiretapping in Greece and the use of the "Predator" software, last week in Athens was the investigative commission PEGA from the European Parliament, and at the press conference on Friday they requested that the case be immediately and fully cleared before the next elections in the country that are to be held before next summer.

The president of the commission Leroen Lenares and the reporter Sophie Int Veld emphasized that after the four-day visit to Greece and Cyprus, they learned many things, but also many questions remained unanswered, for which Veld emphasized that they leave perhaps with more questions than they had when they arrived.

Regarding the use of "Predator" monitoring software in Greece, the reporter and MEP emphasized that they did not receive an answer that used the specific program and said that declassification of information and confidential data is needed, something that the Greek Prime Minister can do.

The rapporteur of PEGA will present the draft report on Tuesday after the visit to Greece and Cyprus.
