The mayor of Belgrade did not report that he bought a villa worth 820 thousand euros in Trieste

Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Šapić came under fire from the public because he did not report the villa he bought in Trieste in 2018 for 820 euros to the Serbian Anti-Corruption Agency, which is why the opposition there is demanding his resignation, the Balkan Research Network (BIRN) reported. .

The former water polo representative and vice president of the central board of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), on whose proposal he was elected mayor, was the president of the Belgrade municipality of Novi Belgrade at the time of the purchase of the villa.

- He bought the villa on the basis of his registered stay in Trieste, and judging by the contract, he intended to use the Italian tax incentives to pay a lower tax when buying real estate - BIRN explained.

At the same time, it was noted to Šapić that he illegally and without a building permit added to the house in which there is an apartment of 340 square meters and that he obtained the legalization of the extension in the Bežanijska Kosa neighborhood of Belgrade.

According to data from the Italian cadastre, referred to by BIRN, Shapic's villa has an area of ​​400 square meters, and the purchase agreement from 2018 states that 820 thousand euros were paid.
