Great drought in France, in some villages water is delivered by tankers
In Sejan, in the southern part of France, the old stone fountains are empty, and the taps in the households work only according to the strict daily limit thanks to the tanker trucks, because the natural springs have dried up, "Euronews" reported.
"And while most of Europe is struggling with drought and record temperatures, residents of a picturesque countryside, who previously watered gardens or filled swimming pools without thinking, now have to act quite differently," claims mayor René Hugot.
"Sometimes there are a few clouds, but no water, never, not even a drop of rain... We are getting a little desperate because the situation is not getting any better... Everyone has reduced their water consumption"
The level of water used is checked every week in order to ensure that all households in the site respect the limit of 150 liters of water per person per day.
For water to be delivered to that and neighboring villages at all, it must be transported from areas where there is enough.
"It's an exceptional situation," says Eric Martel, director of water supply for the municipality of Fajans, where Sejan belongs.
As he added, very little rain had fallen since last fall.
"What worries us is the coming winter and spring." If it doesn't rain then, we will be in a dramatic situation," said Martel.
