104 journalists died this year, more than half in Gaza
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), in its latest report, announced that in 2024, 104 journalists were killed in the world, the majority of them killed in the Gaza Strip.
"2024 is one of the worst years," IFJ General Secretary Antony Bélanger said.
So far, the most recorded deaths of journalists were in 2023, when the number of dead reached 129.
According to the IFJ, 55 Palestinian media workers have been killed since the beginning of this year.
Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Palestine, on October 7, 2023, the number of Palestinian journalists killed is at least 138, marking this territory as one of the most dangerous in the history of modern journalism, after Iraq, Mexico and the Philippines, IFJ informs.
The second most dangerous area for journalists is the Asia-Pacific region, with 20 deaths, including six attacks in Pakistan, five in Bangladesh and three in India.
In Europe, Ukraine is still the most dangerous country for journalists, where four of them died in 2024.
