In 2021, the British street artist Banksy painted a seagull mural on the wall of a married couple's house in Lowestoft, UK. But the mural became a nightmare for the tenants, who recently had to remove it.

The people living in the house were surprised to see Banksy's work painted on the wall one morning. Their first thought was that the property they live in will have more value because of the mural, and the second - how much responsibility they should take, writes British "Times".

But the initial delight turned to disappointment, as the city authorities informed them that they had to pay around 46.000 euros to maintain the artist's work, as well as to protect the work from potential theft.

"I had to hire a night watchman to guard the mural because someone stole part of it and tried to sell it on Facebook. "The second time, the vandals were caught with a dozen cans of white paint and they obviously wanted to paint the wall," said the owner of the house.

The mural was removed after the couple who live in the house hired a specialist construction company, which reinforced the wall with 12 layers of resin and five tonnes of steel, before a 12m crane removed the entire project in one piece. Of course, everything with proper permission from the authorities.

For the removal of this work of art, the owners of the house paid 230.500 euros. They hope to sell Banksy's original work.

“At first it was amazing, but as things progressed it became extremely stressful. I'm not sure Banksy could have realized the unintended consequences of his project on the homeowners. "If we could turn back time, we would have prevented it," the owners say.

The artist took charge of the project in a three-minute video posted on social media, which shows him creating artwork in various English seaside towns.
