The Association of Local Self-Government Units (ZELS) will work on amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government in order to find a mechanism for replacing the mayor. The power of the mayors is too great and it should be limited, said the president of ZELS and mayor of Kisela voda municipality Orce Gjorgjievski.

Now the most pronounced problem is in Skopje. Tomorrow, the problem can be expressed in any Skopje municipality. One person cannot, for understandable reasons or any frustration, hold hostage an entire city, an entire municipality, and so on. The mayors, I am starting from myself, according to the existing laws on local self-government, are untouchable, they are overprotected, says Mayor Gjordjievski in an interview with Radio Free Europe.

He emphasizes that a mayor can only be changed in elections and believes that their power should be limited, so then the mayor will know that he can start, but it does not mean that he will perhaps finish the mandate to the end, so it is logical that he will think to realize something.

We have mayors from the past who spent four years in hibernation in their mandates, who slept through their mandates in popular terms and there is no punishment, the only punishment is the elections. There must be a mechanism to be introduced with which accountability can come as early as possible. I'm not only talking about criminal responsibility, but about the responsibility of the mayors and thus to regulate their work or non-work, said Gjordjievski.

The mayor said that after the big fire in Rasadnik, as he also told the media, nothing will be built, because first, in order to build, a DUP has to be passed.

Unlike the past and the concept from the past, where rough concreting had to be carried out in Rasadnik by my predecessor, from the ranks of the Social Democratic Union, that is the former mayor of Kisela Voda, my concept, which I offered was different, the citizens they supported it and that concept becomes practice. It is starting to be realized in practice, and that means in the first part of my promise, I said, and the successful announcement and selection of an international competition for an idea solution for the Nursery has been completed. After the completed procedure, the preparation of the DUP should still be ordered, says the mayor.

With regard to the request of ZELS to increase the fines for creators of illegal dumps, he says that the inspection acts according to tariffs, but that the fines are too low. If this request of ZELS is accepted, according to Gjeorgjievski, the cause of all this will be affected, and not how we have dealt with the consequences so far.

With fines in the amount of three to five thousand euros and with the possibility of confiscating the offender's vehicle, those 2-3% of the population who, because of their recklessness, suffer all our fellow citizens, whether it is in Skopje, whether it is anywhere in which municipality throughout Macedonia, I believe that we will seriously influence to prevent such an occurrence and that there are as few such occurrences as possible in the future, says the mayor.

When asked if he will be the next mayor of Skopje, Gjeorgjevski says that it depends on several factors, but that he would be a good mayor of the capital, that he is not afraid of work and that he can contribute a lot to it.

It depends on several factors. My priority right now is to realize all the projects that I have committed to my fellow citizens, to realize them, and de facto most of my projects have been realized, over 90% I have another set of projects that I have not promised , but living matter emerged and realized. It is logical and normal for every person to have an ambition, especially in politics, to work and leave results behind. If the citizens think that I lead the municipality well, of course there will be polls for our political party, if the citizens decide on that, and also the bodies of our political party, Central Committee, Executive Committee and of course the president of the party, I think I would be a good mayor of Skopje. I am not afraid of work and I think that I can contribute a lot to the city of Skopje, said the mayor of Kisela Voda.
