The German company Deutsche Bahn today offered an increase in wages to employees in an attempt to prevent new strikes, Reuters reported. The offered increase is up to 12 percent, with a special surcharge of 2.850 euros, in order to mitigate the effect of increased inflation on the salaries of employees of the railway operator. The salary increase should be implemented over 24 months. The offer gives 12 percent for the lowest paid workers, and 10 and 8 percent for the employees with higher salaries, the advertisement says. The German railway union EVG stressed that it will respond to the offer next week, but until then it will not take any action, Kamatica reports. In the past period, EVG organized strikes that caused numerous disruptions in traffic. The agency notes that the union, which has 180.000 Deutsche Bahn employees in its membership, previously requested a 12 percent salary increase or at least an additional 650 euros per month. Deutsche Bahn then presented an offer to raise wages by 10 percent for lower-paid workers and eight percent for higher-paid workers, including gradual increases.
