The current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is frustrating and a threat to peace and stability throughout Europe, German European Minister Michael Roth said ahead of a visit to Sarajevo.

"Calls for secession and weakening of the state by withdrawing from state institutions are irresponsible and unacceptable. They are diverting attention from the real tasks of political responsibility, namely the implementation of the necessary reforms to move closer to the European Union. "Progress is urgently needed in this area in the interest of the country's citizens and economic development." the statement said.

He stressed that Germany stands firm with the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are committed to the democratic, legal and European future of the country.

Roth will stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina until December 2nd and will meet with BiH Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic, members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, High Representative of the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt and civil society representatives.

The talks will focus on the current political situation and the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Roth will also meet with members of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Parliamentary Assembly, with whom he intends to discuss the necessary reforms to progress towards the EU and the consequences of the current political blockade.
