German police seize 1,2 tons of cocaine in banana boxes
German police seized 1,2 tons of cocaine in banana boxes in the municipality of Gross Kreuz in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, Tagesspiegel reported.
This is by far the largest drug seizure in the province of Brandenburg, said police spokesman Mario Heinemann.
Following a tip from one of the employees, the police surrounded the premises of a large fruit trader in a major operation on Tuesday afternoon, the spokesman said.
After the search, a large quantity of drugs was discovered.
It was established that the cocaine was transported by ship from South America to Germany, and from there by land to Gross Kreuz. Last July, 660 kilograms of cocaine were seized in Brandenburg.
