German police believe the attack on the train could have an Islamist background
Authorities in Bavaria no longer rule out the possibility that the knife attack on a train in southern Germany in early November had an Islamist background, the Munich state prosecutor's office said on Tuesday. reports Star Tribune.
"Propaganda videos of the so-called Islamic State have been found on the suspect," said the Munich state prosecutor's office, which is investigating the case.
In addition, some content on the 27-year-old Syrian's Facebook page points to extremist views of the world.
Authorities cited mental illness as the backdrop to the November 6 attack, with the attacker on a high-speed train between Regensburg and Nuremberg randomly stabbing passengers.
Three men were injured on that occasion, the last of whom left the hospital yesterday.
The State Attorney's Office stressed that a detailed medical expertise is currently awaited, which will show the extent to which the defendant, who is in psychiatry from the attack, was healthy at the time of the attack.
In 2016, an Afghan migrant attacked and injured five passengers on a train in southern Germany with an ax.
