Germany will allow the entry of foreign workers due shortage of staff at German airports as a temporary measure, the German newspaper reported Bild am Sonntag, citing the Ministers of Interior, Transport and Labor.

Airports across Europe, including Germany, are facing staff shortages due to increased passenger traffic due to the repeal of most epidemiological measures introduced due to covid-19.

Photographs of passengers waiting in long lines for security checks at Dusseldorf airport earlier this week showed the extent of labor shortages, which caused chaos during the tourist season.

The Ministries of Interior, Labor and Transport will launch a joint campaign to bring temporary foreign workers working at German airports, writes Bild and adds that there is a shortage of 2.000 to 3.000 employees at the airports.

The campaign aims to bring a four-digit number of skilled workers from Turkey in Germany who will be employed for several months from July.

Labor Minister Hubertus Hale said employers must pay wages in accordance with collective agreements and provide decent accommodation for a limited time.

Lufthansa, Germany's largest airline, canceled 2.200 flights last week precisely due to a lack of staff to serve passengers.
