As of today, there are no free rapid tests for Covid-19 in Germany for those who may or may not be vaccinated, German media reported, noting that while the government hopes many undecided people will be motivated to get vaccinated, some doctors have criticized the measure.

So far, every citizen in Germany could be tested once a week for free on Covid-19 in one of the many pharmacies, surgeries or makeshift testing centers. The result of a quick antigen test arrives within 20 or 30 minutes, usually by email.

As of October 11, testing already is not free, except for children, pregnant women and people who are not allowed to be vaccinated for medical reasons, as well as those who are quarantined, so now they should get a negative result.

The Standing Committee on Vaccination recently recommended vaccinating pregnant women and teens between the ages of 12 and 18 so that tests for them would be free until the end of the year so that everyone would have the opportunity to be vaccinated.

The hope of politicians is that paying for tests will further encourage those who are hesitant to get vaccinated. Across Germany, the so-called 3G rule is in force, meaning that only those who have been vaccinated, those who have been vaccinated or tested are allowed to enter closed areas of restaurants, gyms, cinemas, stadiums and various events.
