The German army plans to use TikTok to recruit new members of the armed forces, DPA reported, citing the country's Defense Ministry.

"To compete with the best minds, the use of TikTok is absolutely imperative," said a spokeswoman for the German Ministry of Defense. To that end, at the end of this month, employment boards in Germany are starting to implement a new application-based approach, using a specially developed program.

According to the spokeswoman, whom the DPA did not name, "it is essential that the Bundeswehr reaches out to young people in a place where they can get information and exchange ideas digitally."

She added that service members will be able to freely access social platforms as long as they do so while on leave, at their own expense and do not reveal military secrets.
